Fairmount School of Music Classes

Fairmount School of Music Presents. . .
For Those About to Rock…a lesson in the art of jammin'

For Those About to Rock... is a program designed to teach students how to interact musically with one another in a classroom environment. The program enables students to play together in a "band-type" situation while teachers moderate, instruct, and produce.

Students will learn songs of popular rock artists, from the Beatles to Metallica, and perform them together as a band. For Those About to Rock... was a concept put together by Fairmount instructors, Thomas Haywood (drums), Don Bosley (guitar), and Mike McNamara (guitar), in early 2010, and with the help of the school, made it a reality last Spring. The next installment of this program will now contain 6 class sessions, that will begin on Sunday October 2nd, and will cost $120. We are holding a special SIGN UP DAY for this session on Sunday September 25th between 12 pm & 2pm at Fairmount School of Music in the Drum Room. Anyone wanting their child(ren) to attend must come by and sign up that day ONLY. The total of all 6 classes will be due on this day.

Students/Parents will be required to fill out a sign-up sheet that will be reviewed by the instructors. The instructors will then group students into classes/bands and be assigned a class time. In light of past installments of the program, we have left a few Sundays open for those bands that need more practice time (due to absences, etc). These class times may vary from their normally scheduled class meeting times.

Fall 2001 Dates: October 2nd, 16th, 30th; November 13th, 27th; December 4th

This 6-class installment of the program will not only focus on getting students familiar with the dynamics of playing together as a group and concentrate on watching and listening to others while maintaining the integrity of their own given parts, but also give them an opportunity to perform in a professional venue with their band. Classes are limited to approx. 8 students per session, but there will be multiple classes throughout the day.

Classes will meet for approx. an hour on Sundays starting around 12:30pm and times will be decided upon sign up approval.

Currently Open to: Guitarists, Bassists, Drummers, and Vocalists
